IN MEMORY OF JAMES EDWARD HOPKINS
April 11 1933 - June 16 2006
Too alarming now to talk about
take your pictures down and shake it out
truth or consequence say it aloud
use that evidence race it around
There goes my hero
watch him as he goes
There goes my hero
he's ordinary
Don't the best of them bleed it out
While the rest of them peter out
Kudos my hero leaving all the best
You know my hero the one thats on

Pastel red to burgundy and spinifex to gold, We've just come out of the Mulga where the plains forever roll. And Albert Namatjira has painted all the scenes, And a shower has changed the lustre of our land.
And it's raining on the Rock, In a beautiful country, And I'm proud to travel this big land, As an Aborigine. And it's raining on the Rock What an almighty sight to see, And I'm wishing and I'm dreaming that you were here with me.
Everlasting daisies and a beautiful desert rose Where does their beauty come from heaven knows. I could ask the wedge-tail but he's away too high, I wonder if he understands it's wonderful to fly.
It cannot be described with a picture, The mesmerising colours of the Olgas. Or the grandeur of the RockUluru has power!
And it's raining on the Rock, In a beautiful country, And I'm proud to travel this big land, As an Aborigine. And it's raining on the Rock What an almighty sight to see, And I'm wishing and I'm dreaming that you were here with me. John Williamson, Raining on the Rock (1986)
Pop, Grandad, Jim, Coach, Mentor, Hoppo + more
more than anything else he was an inspiration one of the most talented blokes you could ever meet with his hands a piece of timber could be made into anything so practical and straight forward but always done to perfection there was no other way. someone you could talk to about anything knowing it stopped there or he had the answer.
thanks God for sharing him with our family for his time here on earth couldn't have asked for more.
